As we walked .....

Well i don't know where to begin my journey .. I actually don't want to mention about the start because it has been a painful one.. Leaving home, friends, family isn't all that an easy task. Well now i am at Brisbane -Australia and would want to share some of my experiences in the past two months.

The first one that comes to my mind ... Is about the system in Brisbane. . the co-ordination between different teams.. its simply amazing ... i was totally open mouthed at the sight that i happened to witness...

I was on my way back home.. My friend and myself were admiring the fact that we cannot spot a single policeman on the roads.. there is not a single traffic policeman who stands at his position for hours together managing the traffic. If it were India, during a traffic jam we would find the traffic policeman taking the task to hand and switching off the traffic signals and handle the signals on their own. Well here the story is different. there aren't any super jams that usually happens back in India.. the traffic runs very smoothly in about 4 lanes.. and surprisingly the cars have a right hand driving similar to Indian driving style..

Well this is what we were admiring .. no traffic jams, no police.. no traffic policeman.. We had seen a couple of them near our university bus stop but they belonged to traffic control.. We were dying to see a policeman here.. We did not see Police stations too.. Where were these guys..

Suddenly we heard something crash. We did not pay much heed to it and we walked towards the main road which was just stone throw away. Well main roads here are more like the highways back in India.. and the lanes am sure you can guess by now are like the main roads in India..

Anyways we had not yet reached the main road when we heard sirens all around .. (This place was more like the Richmond Road in Bangalore.) That's when we suspected something is really wrong out there .. When we reached the spot.. We found a long queue of vehicles and a few men in blue.. hee hee .. There was an ACCIDENT !!! a major one..

Unlike India.. there wasn't any mob rescuing the victims. Nor did that place have a traffic jam usually created by inquisitive people hoping to help the victims or watching the nasty situation of the ailing victim.

There was an ambulance, police van (finally we get to see the policeman), traffic control, fire engines, cranes, rescue teams, news agency too i guess.. All of them were out there for rescue. It happened in few minutes. The co-ordination was amazing .. We actually wanted to check the extent of damage but we were scared to even approach the accident spot. There was so much of security. As we walked along the footpath we found that a red car (more like the swift back in India) had rammed into the footpath and it was all in tatters. The sight was pitiable. It seemed as if no one has come out alive.. But then we did get to see the victims. They actually survived uninjured. Thanks to the almighty.. There were some crape bandages here and there on the man - he was probably driving the car. The lady who was with him in the car was crying. She was totally lost. Extremely petrified and shocked to death. She was trembling and the lady policeman was trying to calm her down.

There were many other guards out there.. some on the phone, some interrogating, some investigating the extent of damage.. There was glass pieces everywhere on the footpath.. We were standing at the beginning of the footpath, gaping open mouthed at the scene that unfolded in front of us. We had two options.. one was to walk past the accident spot to the railway station and the other to walk behind the parapet wall and then get into the station.. We always took the second one. But as curiosity seemed to kill the cat in us.. hee hee we thought of taking the first option.. But as strangers to this country we were not sure whether we could do so. What if we were poking our nose into unwanted stuff..

My friend dragged me, so that we could take the aisle behind the wall .. she was not very keen in watching the plight. Then we find a man walking towards us. We hoped that he would walk past the accident zone. Interestingly there was no board out there which said don't trespass.. hee hee
We thought this was it. He happened to cross past us and we religiously followed him. All the men and women in blue gaped at us.. As if to say just walk past us soon, don't mess with the investigation. We actually got the privilege to see the damaged car. It was trashed to the core. The bumper was in its worst shape. The tyres were thrown apart. There were no traces of unbroken glass.. hee hee .. in simple words i have no clue how they survived.

After that we caught our train and went back home. After that we did not speak about it. All the way we were arguing about when and how will India implement such a system. This incident i shall remember for quite some time only because i would want to see such system actually come into practice in India some time in the future. It is not impossible. It is true population is more be that of cars or humans. In all aspects of population we are leading. But it is up to us to take up the challenge and set things right in India.. What say ?? Is it possible for India to have such a system ??? Any thoughts to ponder on ??
