Stretch of Brisbane close to my heart – Its timings don’t suit me

You can see a zillion different faces, a zillion different thoughts and hundreds of trends. It is just this one stretch of street in Brisbane called the Queens Street, where all the “hungama” of the city takes place.

You will find restaurants, pubs, discs, shops and even chemists on this street. Surprisingly all of them except the restaurants close by 5pm in the evening. I don’t get the logic at all. In India all the shops and the malls are open until 9pm and sometimes 10 -11 as well. Here the offices shut down by 5pm as well. I mean the point is, even in India it is a 9 -5pm job, yet people tend work overtime, or spend time travelling and only then reach home by 8pm or 9pm or even later. It is just the opposite here. Office goers reach home by 6pm, they have supper by 7pm and they are off to bed by 8pm. Why so early? I don’t know the answer. But I do know that they wake up very early. It could be as early as 4am or 5 am. They go jogging or spend time on household chores and attend to kids. Especially the gentlemen have to drop kids to school and then reach office by 9am.

So all I wanted to tell you is that Australians lead a very ROUTINE life during the WEEK and have a blast in the WEEKEND. May be that is why the shops are open until 9pm on Fridays on the Queen street.

Well I am not a shopaholic. But I do hunt for stuffs that I want to buy, it’s after a long search and depending on the worth of money I tend to buy the stuffs I like. Most of the time it is usually the split second decisions that bring out the best in us. It’s the same with me, if I spend hours on shopping; I usually end up buying NOTHING. Well it happens with everyone.
